Bill is going on a trip with his two sisters, they were going to fly to Michigan together. But his sister's dog is has a tumor on his heart and the vet gave him 6 weeks to live, so Bill's sister is going to rent an RV and drive out to Michigan. Bill says they should just put the dog down before the trip. What do you think?

I can't believe I'm even blogging but the situation this morning was so ridiculous that I have to say something. I would have phoned in but I was walking my two dogs or I should say as they walk me (I have a lab and Rot.) as I do every morning while I listen to your show. And it's a great show; it's fun to listen to.
I don't think
Bill is being heartless - and Amy lighten up. Just listening to everyone and especially Amy I'm surprised that nobody didn't mention the intent of the trip taken by Bill and his sisters in October and that is the placing of their father's ashes along side of their mother. That and that alone should be the focus of their emotional energy. And Amy, you're comments regarding how heartless Bill can be interpreted as someone who has yet to have to bury a loved one such as parents or a sibbling. Even after an extended period of time, what Bill and his sisters will go through will be emotional, heartfelt and again the focus should be what they're coming together for and not the impending death of a dog.
And as I mentioned before, we have two dogs who we love to death (no pun intended) and are members of our family, however, there are priorities and in essence if there is a terminal prognosis for the dog with a limited time for life, then the dog should be accorded the opportunity to die at the place where he lived - in his home surrounded by the people who loved him and not in a RV so that the intent of the trip to Michigan doesn't get mirred down in the consequences of the impending or actual death of a dog.
Bill, how dare you suggest such a thing to your sister! If it were your child, would you have them put down for travel convenience?
I agree with everything anonymous said. I agree with Bill too, put the dog down, why let it die on the road?
Bill, let's just hope that your LITTLE sister doesn't say....can we put FIFI with mom and dad?
And remember, this is you little sister and how everybody gets from point A to point B doesn't matter. She still wants to be there for the occation and Fifi is like her child. Nature will take it's course and you may not even have to deal with it. Just remember to give her lots of hugs when it's over.
As an avid animal lover I feel it is a personal decision that only Bill's sister can make. I would probably though have my pet put to sleep as I do not like to see them suffer and feel it would be more comfortable for them to be home. But if I thought my dog would be fine on the trip and enjoy it I would rent the rv. Also pets can be someones greatest comfort when they are in need.
